Here are two e-mails that were provided by Carie Blow to help in the understanding process of just one of the many aspects in her workload. Below is the content and genre analysis of the documents to comprehend why Carie Blow chose the words and organization of the email in the manner that she did. Learning these smalls pieces of information first help to grow into the successful manager that everyone dreams to be.

Analysis

Setting:

This is the near the end of a thread of e-mails about a pool issue that had been occurring in Poway regarding cloudiness of water. The first email is to the OM in Poway explaining what needs to be done and how to go about the steps to resolve the issue. The second email is to the District Operations Manager who is the “boss” of all OMs in the area. She is letting her know that she took the necessary steps to provide the Poway OM the information needed to resolve the issue.

Subject:

The pool is the subject of this document. Carie had previous experience with her own pool and is vague familiar with the other polish the area since they all resort to the same pool service company. The pool’s cloudiness needs to be addressed by a complete re-surfacing of the pool which will put a very large dent in the expenditure availability for the Poway location. After the estimate is submitted Carie will then have to approve the extension of the allowances because it is a very big project that requires club closure which is not a desired option.

Participants:

The Operations Manager at another club and the District Operations Manager as well as the sender (Carie). these are the only participants in this set of documents. There is no other audience. The only active members moving forward will be between the two Operations Managers. The DOM will not convene with this conversation because Carie is now in charge of fixing the issue at hand.

Purpose:

The purpose of the document is to inform Jessica (the DOM) that Carie has properly addressed the issue with Emily and then to also provide Emily with all the information and tips that she could need. As the email states to Jessica, Emily had already been trained in what to do with this situation, so she is letting Jessica know that the competency level during this time is not likely for the company. There are underlying messages in her email to Jessica when she states “I will continue to monitor the situation” because in previous situations with the Poway location, the ability to follow up with sauna service or equipment failure has not taken place, so she is reassuring Jessica that she with monitor everything to make sure what needs to get done actually does get done.

Content:

The language that Carie uses is very straight and to the point. She provides all the information in a well organized simplified manner. With her email to emily she give the required task and does not even provide a salutation which inquires that she just needs to get the problem resolved as quickly as possible. With her boss, Jessica the DOM, she provides and salutation and makes sure that with her words she is able to reassure Jessica that the issue will be taken care of as soon as possible.
